Sad news to report from Italy today. It’s been announced that Piaggio’s Chair and Chief Executive Officer, Roberto Colaninno has passed away.

The businessman and entrepreneur acquired control of struggling Piaggio back in 2003 and has helped bring it back to profitability, with expansions into the Asian markets helping to increase market share on a global level.

Colannino recently celebrated his 80th Birthday but died a few days ago, leaving his wife Oreta and their two sons Mattero and Michele.

Colannino’s death was announced in a short press release by Piaggio earlier today.
