Italjet have literally ripped up the scooter design and sensibility rulebooks and created this thing of absolute joy, beauty and insanity. Enter the Italjet Dragster 500GP.
Unveiled today for the very first time at EICMA in Milan this scooter hybrid is certainly going to cause a stir.
Not only is this scooter drop dead gorgeous but it’s also geared – powered by a 450cc single-cylinder, 43bhp liquid-cooled, 4-valve, six speed engine derived from the Fantic Caballero. We’re told that engine has also been breathed on by Italjet.
Designed by the genius mind of Massimo Tartarini who said when asked about the project “This time we even surprise ourselves!”
The devil is in the detail and there’s plenty to look at on this mobile work of art. This thing is true automotive exotica.
Italjet have christened this new category of exotica “Urban Geared”and say the 500GP has the feeling of a real motorcycle with the lightness and agility of a hyper scooter.
The six-speed manual transmission is another first for a modern production scooter and will no doubt help this creation to blur boundaries between the motorcycle and scooter worlds.
Italjet Dragster fans will instantly notice that the iconic single-sided SIS front suspension set up has been replaced with more conventional upside down front forks, which is probably a wise move for this application. The 47mm forks will help this scooter to handle and the Brembo callipers all round will be a welcome addition to the stopping department too.
As with anything from Italjet you won’t expect to see this concept in your local scooter shop for a while yet, the Bologna based company plan to introduce the 500GP to the market in 2024, although we’ll take that with a generous sprinkling of finest Parmesan.
“Once again, we have achieved our goal: to create a vehicle that did not exist. For DRAGSTER 500GP we were inspired by the world of sports bikes. We wanted to create a vehicle capable of combining the fun you feel riding a motorcycle with the lightness and agility of a scooter. DRAGSTER 500GP marks a new chapter in the history of two-wheelers and confirms us again as a brand that anticipates trends” comments Massimo Tartarini (pictured above), President and CEO of Italjet Spa “
“At EICMA we are also pleased to present the final version of DRAGSTER # e01 Electric, the green model for those who want to focus.”
More coming up about that on SLUK shortly…
