Austrian-based KSR Group GmbH, distributor of the Lambretta brand (amongst others) has filed for “Judicial restructuring without self-administration.” 

The family-run company has around 123 million Euros worth of debt and filed to Krema Regional Court on September 6th. Judicial restructuring is usually the first step a company makes with the aim of working out a way to repay its debt, without going into administration.

Earlier today the letter above went out to Lambretta dealers in Europe.

Lambretta/Innocenti?

KSR Group were involved in the development and distribution of the new Lambretta brand and currently legally owns 10% of it. Walter Scheffrahn’s Innocenti SA owns the other 90% of Lambretta GmbH. Innocenti SA is owned 100% by Walter and is independent of KSR.

60,000 vehicles per year

KSR own Malaguti, Brixton Motorcycles and Motron. In addition, they also import and distribute Italjet, NIU, Royal Enfield, Sur-Ron and CF Moto.

In total, KSR look after (or own) 15 scooter/motorcycle brands, sells over 60,000 vehicles per year, has a dealer network of 2300 and employs around 230 people throughout Europe. They operate in Austria, Greece, France, Spain, Italy, Belgium and the Netherlands and have a presence in Asia. Their Austrian HQ supplies over 600,000 spare parts each year.

UK Distribution

In the UK, KSR brands are supplied through Chorley-based distributor MotoGB. As we go to press we’re waiting for a comment from KSR, MotoGB and Brixton Motorcycles. We will update this article later if we hear anything else.

Expansion

The company has accelerated its growth over the last few years and KSR Hellas was set up in 2021 in Athens to serve the Greek motorcycle market. This meant they were represented in the top five European two-wheeler markets.

Reporting for the Austrian Kurier, e-paper, Möchel Dominik Schreiber commented “The applicant is a company founded in 1980 with operations in Italy, Spain, Belgium, Germany and France. The applicant is engaged in the development, import and distribution of products in the areas of “mobility” and ” Smart Products”. Own brands as well as sales brands are sold. according to the AKV. It is an importer of numerous motorcycle brands such as Royal Enfield and Lambretta as well as the brand owner of Brixton Motorcycles, Malaguti and Montron.”
