Pinasco showed us their Zuera 251 casings for Vespa smallframe at EICMA last year. At the time, they were waiting for the dedicated expansion chamber to be produced. Well, it’s here now.
The exhaust has been designed carefully to work with the Zuera 251 and also to fit under the panel of your smallie, even the Vespa ET3 with the side panel toolbox. The only modification needed is a rear shock spacer bracket (Pinasco make one).
Hand built
The exhaust is handcrafted “from the finest materials available, every single section is assembled with obsessive attention to welding, resulting in a miniature masterpiece of engineering. Beyond guaranteeing maximum fluid-dynamic performance, it transforms the Vespa’s aesthetics, giving it a bold racing character.”
Price and availability
The rubber-mounted exhaust comes complete with a support bracket and springs, but it ain’t cheap, it’ll set you back (at a currently reduced price), 845.50€ (£731), plus VAT and import duty. That’s direct from Pinasco, or speak to your local Pinasco stockist.
Zuera Monster 251 engine
Of course, your fancy exhaust isn’t much use without something to bolt it to. Luckily, the Zuera Monster 251 engine is also available.
The die-cast casings are made from high-strength aluminium, and the internal structure has been redesigned to withstand extreme stress, with reinforced ribbing in areas of maximum load.
What’s included?
- Crankases
- 251cc cylinder kit with a 73mm Wössner forged piston
- High resistance splined crankshaft
- 8X reed valve intake and removable manifold
- Complete assembly hardware
Removable gear system
One big advantage with this engine is that you can get access to the gears by removing a cover under the flywheel, making set up much quicker. The dual-standard gear configuration offers the option to use either a needle-roller cage with a dedicated oil seal or a high-precision brass bushing.
Performance?
Pinasco say the engine has been tuned to offer smooth, flexible performance that is flexible and enjoyable to ride. There are no power figures available for it yet.
Price and availability
Like the exhaust, there is an introductory price for the engine. It currently costs 2385,95€ (£2064), plus VAT and import duty. It’s worth bearing in mind that you’ll also need to buy the clutch, ignition, carb and engine internals, in much the same way as you do with the PX 251 that we built a while back in our 8-part series.
If you’re building any PX engine, it’s worth referring to the Pinasco 251 features and videos. Hopefully, the smallframe version will be less troublesome to build, though.
