What did you get up to over the weekend on your scooters? Whatever it was, I doubt it was as adventurous as Günter Schachermayr’s latest Vespa stunt.
The 46-year-old Austrian stuntman used his Red Bull Vespa PK50 to fly 198.5 metres at the flying hill in Höhenhart (Ried in Innkreis). Invented and built by Mr Alois Wenger, the Schmiedbauer Skiflyer is a tourist attraction that gives people a chance to experience the thrill of heading down a ski ramp and taking off at a height of 45 metres for a 200-metre flight. It’s not really meant to be used by scooter riders!

If you watch the video of Günter’s latest World Record attempt it looks quite tame but this ski jump isn’t designed for Vespa use. Imagine yourself sitting at the top of the ramp looking down over the valley as you prepare to jump into the unknown.

Cold sweat
Multi World Record holder, Günter said, “I got cold feet on the trembling beam, my nerves were frayed, cold sweat on my forehead, but once you’re in the inrun lane with the Fischer Olympic jump skis with a length of 240cm, there’s no going back”. The Fischer skis were fitted with ball bearings to achieve the maximum take-off speed as he slid down the daunting ramp.
Guinness World Record
Taking off at 9 am on Saturday, April 6th, Günter landed a 198.5-metre jump and, subject to verification from Guinness, will be a new World Record. Although, to be fair I can’t imagine there will be many trying to beat him!
Cunning stunts
Günter’s past stunts have featured on SLUK many times, they include riding on the top of a cable car while sitting on his scooter at 1530 metres, parascending at 75 metres on his Vespa and doing a 315-foot bungee jump on his scooter. He even rode a Quattrini-powered Vespa through five sheets of glass – the man is mental!
