Thousands of Vespa fans from around the world are converging in Gijòn, Spain, this weekend for the annual Vespa World Days event.
It’s the first time Spain has hosted the event in 25 years, and it should provide a great spectacle for locals and the attending Vespiti alike. Last year’s record-breaking VWD event was held in the Vespa’s hometown of Pontedera, Italy, and official figures said 15,000 Vespa took part in a multicoloured parade that stretched for 16 km!
Vespa Village
All the action in Gijòn starts today (May 1st) and will be based around the Vespa Village in the centre of the town at the Luis Adaro Exhibition Centre.
The exhibition space will have live music, trade stands, and iconic Vespas from the last 79 years of the Italian manufacturer’s production. The Vespa Tours will also depart from the exhibition centre and will visit many beautiful areas of the Asturias region of Spain and the stunning Atlantic coast.
The history of Vespa World Days
Vespa Clubs were formed as far back as 1946 when the scooter was first produced. The growing network of Vespa Clubs came together for the first time at the International Rally in Paris in 1954. Over the years, ‘Euro Vespa’ events have taken place across Europe, and it was renamed Vespa World Days in 2007. This enabled the event to take place across the world, in places as far off as Bali, Indonesia.
In 2026, Vespa celebrates its 80th birthday with a very special Vespa World Days in Rome. The date for that event will be announced in Gijòn this weekend after the president’s meeting.
