Today we’ve started seeing online advertising for a large scale event that is directly in competition with the official VFM Isle of Wight International Scooter Rally.
The ‘other’ event is being held on the island at the previous rally campsite at Smallbrook Stadium and has lots of live bands, camping etc.
Not only does this go against everything most of us time-served rally going scooterists have fought against over the last 30 odd years but it’s also a massive kick in the teeth for the true scooterists who put literally everything on the line to put on the official rally at Sandown Airport. Believe me, thousands and thousands of pounds go into just getting the rally going.
Although there’s no monopoly on who can and can’t do what, there is some honour amongst most scooterists and we’ve always strived to keep away from outside promoters cashing in wherever possible.
We’d like to urge SLUK readers to steer clear of this ‘pirate’ event put on by promoters who are only there to line their own pockets and damage our National scene.
