Hello SLUK readers and welcome back after the Christmas/New Year holidays. We hope you all had a good one.
The first of a few large scooter custom shows for 2023 kicked off last weekend with the popular Newark Winter Classic Show. We paid a social visit (rather than a working visit) but thought we’d share a few photos of some of our favourite custom scooters and a quick video from the event.
Not just a scooter custom show
It was good to blow off the winter cobwebs and catch up with lots of scooterists, amongst all those greebos (Newark is a mixed custom and trade show with lots of bikes, auto jumble, trade stands and scooters). One thing that amazes me is that scooterists are happy to pay £15 to get in, if a scooterist-run event charged that for a trade & custom show, they’d be lynched! It is a good show though with lots of variety and special guests from the bike racing world, like Foggy, Whitham and Steve Plater.

You can see some of the scooters and stands in the gallery above, keep your eye out for one of the first-ever Lambretta twin-cylinder scooters amongst those photos. Most people probably won’t have noticed it. There is of course the very latest twin as well…
Start ’em up!
Aside from the static bike and scooter displays, trade stands and auto jumble, Newark also has an area where some of the more exotic machines can be started up. Whilst I was there, everything from vintage motorcycles to Spondon-framed 250bhp turbo-fed bikes were revved up for the crowd.
Of course, what we were more interested in were the BSSO, BSEC and sprint scooters but the star of the show was the latest exotic scooter from Casa Performance.
We featured the CP 250 Twin here just before Christmas (have a catch-up if you missed it) and the 76bhp Lambretta has caused a massive storm on our YouTube channel.
Micky and Marco flew over from Rimini, especially for the show. Casa Performance was sharing a stand with Oiltek (the Oiltek alloy Lambretta frame is a work of art in itself) and the CP evil twin had been brought over to allow UK scooterists a chance to see and hear it up close for the first time. It didn’t disappoint. Steve Plater interviews Micky in the video above. On the second day of the show, former racer and bike nut, Jamie Whitham gave the scooter huge praise and it won best engineered.

Of course, if you love custom, classic, trick and obscure scooters from the past to the present you’ll need to make sure you have Scooter Expo in your diary for Sunday May 21st. It’s going to be huge!
