Historic British sidecar manufacturer, Watsonian have just added the (don’t shoot the messenger die-hard Lambretta fans) V Special to their list of scooter sidecar fitting kits.

The Gloustershire-based firm have seen steady growth in the demand for sidecars from scooter riders, with the Vespa GTS proving popular.

Fitting a sidecar to the V Special proved challenging for the engineers at Watsonian. They’ve designed a specific subframe to bolt beneath the floorboards. This provides secure mounting points for the arms that come from the sidecar’s chassis.

Two body types

Customers can choose between two body styles, the GP Manx with its distinctive octagonal nose, or the lightweight Prescott (pictured). Both sit on a powder-coated tubular chassis. They’re fitted with hydraulic suspension for a smooth ride and have a deeply valenced classic mudguard. It runs on a 12″ alloy wheel.

Price and availability?

  • The Lambretta fitting kit costs £1200
  • Prescott sidecar prices start at £5395
  • The complete outfit including a new V Special and steering damper is £10,995 on the road
