New from VMC and available in the UK from VE is this Vespa PX 200 7-port, 244cc VMC Explorer cylinder kit.
The aluminium shell moulded barrel is nickel-silicon treated and comes with a 72mm bore, 60mm stroke and conrod length of 126mm (Quattrini crankshafts and 127mm (SIP crankshafts) to make a 244cc motor. The cylinder has an 8mm spigot to allow the piston to be guided even if used with a longer stroke 62-64mm crank. Main transfer phases: 120º discharge, 178º.
Bolt on?
The liner has a larger outside diameter than a stock cylinder so requires the crankcase mouth to be bored out to 76mm and a depth of 8mm. To enable correct machining a steel base guide is supplied which can be screwed to the casings. It’s possible to carry out the necessary work with a cylindrical cutter if you follow the supplied instructions.
Piston
This Explorer kit is supplied with a high-quality Meteor piston with molybdenum disulphate anti-friction treatment and chrome steel rings. Also supplied are aluminium shims in 0.3, 0.5 and 1 mm sizes. It also has aluminium base gaskets from 0.5 mm to 1 mm and paper gaskets of 0.2, 0.3, 0.4 and 0.5 mm.
Cylinder head
It’s recessed head has a silicone ‘O’ ring gasket and 8 fixing points. The exhaust manifold is steel and also has an ‘O’ ring to seal it and a specific 4-screw bracket.
