We’ve brought you a couple of stories recently about high-horsepower scooter engines, but last weekend, eGig set a new naturally aspirated power record.
We’ve seen Lambretta Lutz smash the 100bhp barrier with his Banshee-barrelled twin, although his scooter was aided by the use of laughing gas. Then, in February, Nico Pendl went one better. His single-cylinder eGig 407 hit 105.8bhp. Very impressive, but once again, he was using Nitrous Oxide.
King Dong
Enter Mr eGig himself, Erich Oberpertinger. He’s worked his magic over winter to increase the power of his own 407cc kit for the Vespa smallframe. He took it to a large penis swinging competition at the weekend, in South Tyrol, Northern Italy.
Dyno donkey
Although this dyno competition is simply about top power, Erich knows a thing or two about building powerful two-stroke engines for real-world use, as many of his road-going customers will testify.
Big horses
Above, you can see Erich’s record-breaking dyno run. The screen shows 104.3PS (102.8BHP) and 74.7Nm of torque. I reckon that thing could climb the mountains that surround the dyno!
He’ll be back
Although Mr eGig may have cracked the magical ton, we certainly haven’t seen the back of him yet. He’s a man on a mission with a need for speed and the brain to help create it for our little two-stroke scooters.
