If you’ve just got back from a Bank Holiday weekend in Brighton and want to be one of the faces next year, the next H&H classic scooter auction might just interest you.
Amongst the lots, you’ll find this original scooter from Quadrophenia. The Lambretta GP 200 was used by the actor Phil Davis who played Chalky in the cult film. In one scene he rides out of London with ‘Monkey’ (Toyah Wilcox) on the back.

Originally the scooter was owned by one of the Modrapheniacs SC. He loaned it to the film company but complained about all the damage when he got it back. It had seen lots of takes and plenty of action during filming. They sent him £400 as compensation. That meant he could buy a new scooter, so this one was sold off to the current owner. He tidied it up and rode it to the film’s premiere – his ticket is also included with the scooter.
The owner then sold the scooter in the early 1980s, before the film achieved real cult status. It disappeared after that but resurfaced at a parts fair in 1994, he spotted the reg number whilst walking around Wicksteed Park and bought it back for nostalgic reasons. He’s kept it ever since.
Since then, it’s been used at the ‘Grand Mod Experience’ in Brighton and has also been returned to its full Quadrophenia look, including the mirrors, Cuppini rear rack and Ulma front bumper – which are all said to be the original items. The headset had been changed to an earlier SX one for filming to be more of the period, the original GP one is also included in the sale.
There can be only one
Unlike Sting’s Vespa or Jimmy’s Lambretta, there was only one ‘Chalky’ scooter used during the filming and a fan, or collector is likely to own it soon. This one is in good running order and comes with the V5, you can also tell your mates it one had Toyah riding pillion.

Lambrettas are the ultimate symbol of the Mod scene and this very special example is also one of the main scooters in an iconic British movie which gets more popular every year.
“It’s a piece of bona fide film history and will have strong appeal to Quadrophenia fans and the countless scooter enthusiasts around the world.”
When and where
The scooter will be auctioned at the National Motorcycle Museum in Solihull on Wednesday, October 30th. It has a guide price of £9,000-£11,000. Potential bidders can register online and view the catalogue here. Phone and internet bids are accepted, as are bids in person on the day.
