Scooter endurance racing is one of the most exciting and action-packed scooter sports around. This Saturday (9th September) 37 classic scooters will be lining up on the grid for a 10 a.m. Le Mans start at Teesside.

Amongst those 37 team entries will be a few current and ex-BSSO racers but the majority of the entrants are your regular rally-going road riders. Some will be riding their everyday scooters, and in the case of Team Solid Air, they usually ride their race scooter to the event and back as well. Others have built scooters just for endurance racing.
Instant Replay
One brand new team to watch this weekend is 3Cs Racing who will be in the Pro Race class. Those 3Cs are made up of a trio of very fast and competitive Conneely brothers. The lads raced for Replay Racing in BSSO and will be in the mix from the off.
Scorchio
At the first very wet round at Whilton Mill back in May, scooter endurance had a record number of crashes during race day (around 74). Thankfully it looks like Teesside will suffer a very different weather extremity. The forecast is for 28º of blistering sunshine on Saturday. Expect chewed-up tyres, overheating engines and sweaty, dehydrated leather-clad riders.
Keep hydrated!
If you’re racing (or spectating) make sure you keep yourself fed and hydrated. There’s a decent café at the track so make sure you use it! Rider fatigue can play a part in an endurance race.
Spectating is free!
Yes, that’s correct, spectating at scooter endurance is completely free. Just turn up and watch the action as it unfolds and boy do you get some action! 8 hour’s worth of non-stop racing. You can also watch the event live on YouTube (more details later) but scooter racing is best seen and smelt live at the track. It always looks much slower on telly and you don’t get the same atmosphere. If you’re in the area or at a loose end come and spectate.
Team Caitlin
Although spectating is free and the generosity of sponsors and donations has already paid for the live feed, BSEC are supporting a charity for this event.
Team Caitlin was set up by fellow racer, Rushden Lambretta Club’s Colin Stringer (Team #135). His granddaughter, Caitlin is suffering from multiple life-limiting conditions. The charity aims to support the parents of children who are affected by similar conditions by providing family days out and other events. There will be collection buckets during race day so please give generously.

Jasper Crew
As well as Team Caitlin, the family of another BSSO and BSEC regular racer, Jer Crew are also suffering a terrible time. Jer has just lost his 18-year-old son suddenly.
Jasper died peacefully on July 24th and funds are being raised to help the family. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with funeral costs.

Commentary
During the day Steve Deeks (pictured above with a SLUK clown) will be leading the commentary team for the live feed. If you watched the Whilton Mill event you’ll agree his presenting style is excellent. He may not have huge amounts of scooter knowledge but his enthusiasm and experience of racing and commentating more than make up for that. He’ll also be joined by racers, mechanics and scooterists during the day for a more detailed look at the scooters and teams.

Whether you’re watching at the track, or at home, the live timing and YouTube footage really help you to keep up with the action. You can watch the event live on YouTube from just before the 10 a.m. start and right through until the 6 p.m. finish time.

SLUK Racing
For the first time since BSEC began in 2019, SLUK Racing won’t be competing at this event. Sticky has decided to retire his well-abused Vespa SS90 (quite understandable really). He’s retiring it not because of the crash damage but because the copious amounts of champagne from our race wins are damaging the paintwork. We have a new race project but sadly we’ve not got around to doing anything with it yet.
Iggy will be having a guest ride on London Lambretta Club’s #4 Lambretta at Teesside though.

Where is it?
All the action takes place at Teesside Karting, TS6 6XH. The track has a large free car park (ok to sleep in vans etc.) and isn’t too far from Middlesborough, hotels are available.
