Way back on this day in March 2016, we launched our little online magazine and today, SLUK celebrates its ninth anniversary – where did those years go?
Back then, I had a full head of hair. ScooterLab has occupied many sleepless nights and has been the cause of lots of blistered fingers (typing is a dangerous job). Has it all been worth it? I’d say so. We’ve tried to keep our readers abreast of the latest scooter news, product reviews and developments and tried to make a positive difference to the scooter scene.
Steff Hall’s lovely Aqua racer was the star of the original SLUK landing page and our first custom feature…
Third incarnation
Our website has undergone a couple of transformations and we’re now onto the third incarnation of ScooterLab. I think this version is the best yet, certainly from a working behind-the-scenes point of view. That’s thanks to Brendan Mcintosh who built the new site after our old one got corrupted (causing even more sleepless nights and lost hair). We’re still (very slowly) restoring those old features and moving them over to this site.
Thanks to our readers
It would be pointless sitting here typing away at SLUK HQ if ScooterLab wasn’t being read by the people who matter. We were supported by over 400,000 unique scooterists around the world last year.
Thanks to everybody who reads our stuff, shares it on socials, ‘likes’ our posts, or comments. It all helps to impress the algorithms that govern modern life.
SLUK YouTube
In addition to the website and social profiles, our YouTube channel got half a million views last year and it’s still growing. You can find every video we’ve ever made on there, including our infamous ‘Underdog” promo video, where we almost blew each other up whilst overacting and shooting rockets from a Lui. There was no AI or CGI involved in this one I can tell you. Sticky concocted a firing mechanism that would light a fuse at the push of the handlebar-mounted button.
Our sponsors
Although we try to keep advertising to a minimum and only accept them from reputable and relevant businesses we do still need to make a living.
We’d like to thank three companies in particular, these three have advertised continuously since we began. So a big round of applause for Lexham Insurance, Scooter Center and SIP.
Of course, we also have the support of other companies, people like Rimini Lambretta Centre, Yamaha (see their big advert on the Modern side), Nankang and VFM. We’ve recently added AF Rayspeed as well and it was good to hear from Ben during our recent visit for this feature that his sales had increased quite dramatically in January since they started with us.
Advertise with us

SLUK Shop
One really good reason that we’re still here is the SLUK Shop. Without our own plastic products and the various other parts, gadgets and accessories that we sell, we’d never have survived this far. Thanks to all our customers for your support, as well as to Nigel, our plastic supremo and the various companies and brands that allow us to sell their wares.
We’re always adding new bits and pieces so be sure to keep an eye on it. Some of our latest lines include Dunlop ScootSmart tyres (more tyre brands being added soon), Mophie jump starters, Insta 360 cameras, Quad Lock and JB Tuning.
Want to sell through SLUK?
We’re always looking for new products to add to the shop. If you’d like to have your own virtual shop window for your business on SLUK, with a massive worldwide customer base, get in touch with us at shop@scooterlab.uk

Happy Birthday SLUK ..
