Italy may well be preparing for Vespa World Days later this month in Pontedera but it’s not the only place where Vespisti gather to celebrate this iconic marque.
In March, Thailand saw thousands of Vespa enthusiasts flocking to six different Thai regions, Bangkok, Buriram, Chiang Mai, Songkhla, Khon Kaen and Rayong to take part in Viva La Vespa Festival & Caravan 2024.
10,000 Vespas
Entrance was free for anybody on a Vespa (plus a passenger) and with a vibrant scooter scene in Thailand, this event was always going to be popular. It’s been going on since Vespa’s 65th anniversary in 2015 when 1,000 Vespas attended Nang Leang Racecourse. By 2015 it attracted 5,000 scooters and 10,000 participants.
Bangkok was the main focus of this year’s event and, according to the organisers, Vespa Thailand, there were 10,000 Vespas in that location alone! With the other towns having gatherings of their own that’s a hell of a lot of Vespas.
Modern v Classic
Around 90% of the scooters at the event were modern Vespas, with the Sprint and Primavera models being way more popular than the GTS. Customising is a big thing as well over there with plenty of trick components for both classic and modern Vespas.
