One sure-fire way to reduce the lifespan of your modern Vespa is to let the oil level drop.
With some of the Vespa GTS HPE models it’s even more crucial because they drink more oil than other models. The standard Vespa GTS dipstick is quite flimsy (they occasionally snap when checking your oil) and can be awkward to undo.
Choice of colours
Ron Daley have had their own CNC machined dipstick made to solve some of those problems. They cost £19.99 and come in a choice of black, silver or red. They also have the ‘RD’ logo etched onto them in white. They’re suitable for Vespa GTS 125 (2009-2016) and GTS/GTV 300 (2019 onwards). You can get yours here.
They’re quite a substantial piece of metal and feel very strong, so a ham-fisted owner isn’t likely to snap the end off into the engine. They also have increments machined into the end to help when checking your oil.
How to check your oil
With a Vespa GTS, Ron Daley advises to check your engine oil whilst parked on a level surface and to screw the dipstick all the way in before removing it to check the levels.
