If you’re a rider who suffers with a misting visor in damp or cold conditions this VISIN Heated Visor Insert might just be what you’ve been looking for.
The VISIN heated visor insert has been developed by a UK company with a history in creating specialist heater systems to the automotive, military and medical industries. More recently Diamond Coatings supplied custom coatings for the European Space Agency and NASA’s Solar Orbiter project. The team are also keen motorcyclists so put their skills to work to solve this age-old problem.
The VISIN Heated Visor Insert is the brainchild of Jason Eite from West Midlands-based Diamond Coatings Ltd. He used his expertise in developing high-quality conductive optical coatings to develop a film that can easily be applied to any visor.
The system consists of a visor insert, a Lithium Ion battery pack/controller and a wire connecting the two.
How does it work?
The conductive transparent coating of the visor insert allows electricity to pass across the film and instantly generates heat to clear your field of vision. The heat quickly clears any mist and prevents further mist from occurring. This means riders can keep their visor closed so there’s no more messing about trying to crack it open just enough to try and clear it, usually ending up with more moisture and cold air getting in.
The rechargeable battery lasts for up to 8 hours and can be turned on/off using the controller. It also has an ‘Always on’ mode to make sure your visor stays clear at all times and there’s a boost function which can provide a 2.5 times the power 40-second boost if needed.
What does it fit?
The patent-pending universal design means it fits all road visors, there’s also an enduro version for off-road style helmets. Brand-specific versions are also being developed (there’s already a Shoei version).
Cost and availability
Designed and manufactured in the UK at Diamond Coatings’ world-class manufacturing facility means quality control and materials are all top-notch but that comes at a price. The Visin Heated Visor Insert costs £179.95 for a pack containing everything you need to fit and run the system.
