Competition now ended: Our winner is Alan Legge

Oh to be that age again, that was me (flat top on the right) at Aberystwyth 1990, not a care in the world – other than making the HP payments on my new T5 and having enough cash left over to get to rallies.

This weekend sees a much-needed and very welcome return to the little town in South Wales. Back then you weren’t allowed to dance in Wales on a Sunday and I’m sure it hasn’t changed much since then either!

Ticket and patch to be won!

Anyway, Col has come up with a few ‘facts’ about the rally and he’ll buy a rally patch for the winner. Scooter Collective South Wales have also kindly donated a weekend ticket to go with it.

We’ll publish the results at 4 pm on Thursday 27th July so we can get the ticket sorted in time.

The photo above also proves that point 9 below is false, there are clearly a couple of early dome tents creeping in amongst the traditional ridge tents (I was an early adopter)…

10 fun facts about Aberystwyth scooter rallies

  1. The high-ranking Welsh police officers all ride T5 Vespas
  2. The town’s Mayor enjoys spending his weekends with scooter boys
  3. It never ever rains in Wales
  4. This rally will be the 4th official National Rally to the town of Aberystwyth
  5. Dungarees and stonewashed denim are compulsory at Welsh scooter rallies
  6. Every scooterist at the rally will be in their late teens or early twenties
  7. Riding pillion on a Lambretta chopper wearing moccasins is normal behaviour
  8. Aberystwyth National Rally has always been the last weekend in July
  9. Welsh scooterists will only sleep in ridge tents, dome tents are banned in Wales
  10. The traffic police drive Austin Maestros, thankfully a tuned custom P2 can outrun one if you don’t want pulling over for a roadside document check

*Some of these ‘facts’ can be verified by the photos in the gallery below*

Only one of the above facts is factually correct but which one is it?

One lucky SLUKER (picked at random) with the correct answer left as a comment on this post (not as Facebook comments), will win a 2023 Aberystwyth Crusader rally patch kindly supplied and paid for by Col, plus one weekend ticket for the rally.

Check back here after 4 pm on Thursday 27th to see if you’ve won.

Thinking of you Tommo

A nice gesture from Crusader (as his friends will know) is to put Tommo’s Assassins Creed auto-powered Lambretta on the 2023 patch.
