How can that even be true? The Piaggio Beverly is a quarter of a century old already!

Back in 2001, Piaggio’s *unfortunately named Beverly scooter was released. It combined a refined, motorcycle-inspired chassis with high wheels to produce a fine-handling scooter.

In 2011, Piaggio introduced the Beverly 350, complete with ASR traction control (a first on a scooter) and ABS – of course, those safety details carry on in this model.  Over its lifetime, the model has sold over half a million units in fifty different countries. So, what have Piaggio done for its 25th anniversary?

*Unfortunately named for the UK market at least.

In Italian language, scooters are feminine, and men ride them with gusto (as do ladies). In the UK, scooters are sometimes seen as feminine objects, and buying a scooter with a girl’s name adds insult to injury. We advise our readers to buy a scooter and ride it hard, no matter what sex you are.

Piaggio Beverly 25th Anniversary

The special edition comes in an exclusive Grigio (grey) 25th Anniversary colour scheme to celebrate the silver anniversary. The colour is a new dark shade of grey with a metallic matt finish. It also has a lighter grey graphic running the length of the scooter, from the front mudguard to the rear side panels. That detail is a nod to the original Beverly from the early 2000s. It also has a smoked flyscreen, just like the first models.

Detailing

Glossy black details include the passenger grab handle, transmission cover, wheels, forks and headlight surround. Gold accents are used for the central grill trim, wheel rims and the ‘Beverly’ badge.

New colour, Blu Lapis, has also joined the Beverly S range this year.

The dedicated dual seat material features a perforated texture and refined double stitching to mirror the scooter’s accent colours. A “25th Anniversary” badge adorns the inner legshield and features the Italian tricolour to identify this special edition.

Available now

The Beverly 25th Anniversary is available in the UK as a 35.9bhp 400 HPE; it retails at £6410.

A whole article is waiting to be written about unfortunately named vehicles (for specific markets) 🙂 Any, don’t attach too much importance to gender – in France we have ‘le scooter’ masculine and ‘la moto’ feminine!
