NEW Yamaha NMAX 155 Tech MAX & £600 accessory offer | NEWS

Yamaha is introducing a higher capacity, higher spec version of its very popular NMAX for 2026, and there are also some great incentives on offer if you buy one of the existing NMAX/XMAX models before the end of the year.

NMAX 155 Tech MAX

Although popular in other parts of the world, our licensing laws mean the ‘in-between ‘ capacities (as in above 125 but sub 300cc) don’t usually sell very well. However, lots of full licence holders use a scooter to commute and often don’t need a 300cc scooter but want a bit more power than a 125 can provide. The high spec and tech of the new 155 NMAX fits the bill perfectly and should make riding a little more exciting.

YECVT – NEW TECH

The 155 Tech MAX comes with a new YECVT system (Yamaha Electric Continuously Variable Transmission). YECVT gives the rider two modes, Sport or Town, which can instantly change the character of the engine. This isn’t to be confused with the normal switchable engine mapping modes found on many bikes and scooters.

YECVT alters the gearing ratio to achieve higher RPM for faster acceleration in Sport mode. In Town mode, the RPM is lowered to give a more laid-back ride.

We haven’t ridden one yet, but Yamaha claims the new system provides a sports scooter ride comparable to a geared motorcycle. The system also affects the running characteristics whilst slowing down, with Sport mode giving more engine braking effect.

Downshift feature

One of the key features of the 155 NMAX Tech MAX is the new Downshift function. Open the throttle rapidly or press the shift button and you’re rewarded with stronger acceleration, a bit like changing down a gear on a bike. This function can also be used to increase engine braking when decelerating.

Used together with Sport and Town modes, the Downshift function should make riding the 155 NMAX Tech MAX more thrilling than your average twist & go scooter.

155cc Euro 5+ Blue Core engine

Yamaha’s latest Euro 5+ spec Blue Core engine powers the 155 NMAX and includes Variable Valve Actuation (VVA), as well as new crankcases, a newly designed crankshaft, air filter, exhaust, oil pump and a new hydraulic cam chain tensioner. The engine is also equipped with a new DC motor to power the Downshift function. It also has Start & Stop to further reduce emissions and conserve fuel.

4.2-inch Garmin connected dash

Just like it’s big brother, the mighty TMAX Tech Max that we tested recently, the NMAX also comes with a full-colour TFT display featuring Garmin Navigation. Of course, it’s fully-connected, allowing you to view notifications, listen to music and answer incoming calls (with an intercom).

Premium finish

As you’d expect from Yamaha on a scooter bearing the Tech MAX name, this model has dynamic MAX styling and features Yamaha’s signature Boomerang design. It also has a well-upholstered leather-style seat with gold-coloured stitching and welded embossing. Gold wheels and shocks add to the overall styling.
