Vespa GTS styling is a massive growth area within scootering and German scooter giant, SIP, is all over it like a rash. Look at their latest forged aluminium rims, they’re stunning…
These tasty-looking 13″ MK II rims aren’t just a fashion accessory though. Forged rims have some important advantages over standard cast rims. The special forging process makes the material particularly robust and dense, which makes it possible to shave some weight off. Losing weight on your wheels gives the scooter less unsprung mass, which helps to improve the behaviour of the chassis, increase agility and give more precise steering. Your suspension gets an easier time and high speed handling is improved.
Motorcyclists have craved less unsprung weight for years and forged rims have been a popular but very expensive purchase for many sportsbike riders.
Benefits
- Low weight, around 3000 grammes
- More agile riding behaviour
- Dynamic design with concave surface
- Wide tyres up to 140/60-13’ approved
- With general operating licence (ABE)
Light and strong
At around 3000 grammes, these are the lightest of all the SIP 13″ Vespa GTS rims. They’re also much less expensive than any other forged Vespa GTS rims on the market, they’re a high-end product for a lot less money than anything else of this spec. The slim profile of their five double spokes are visually very good looking, the rims also have a deeper centre than the outer edge, this concave shape enhances their style and makes it look like the rims have a positive offset.
ABE, complete wheels and instructions for fitting the MK II rim
The SIP safety standard for the development of new wheel types includes load tests and official approval by the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA). It goes without saying that the MK II rim also complies with the latest guidelines. Successful testing according to German standards (StVZO) resulted in recognition by the KBA in the form of a general operating licence (ABE).
Front or rear
The MK II rim can be fitted both front and rear. Theoretically, all tyres up to a width of 140 fit, but a bush is required to mount the rim as a rear wheel. Vehicles with ABS and tone wheel for the ABS sensor can be converted with the SIP mounting kit. Vehicles with ABS must be calibrated after a tyre change; please refer to the vehicle operating instructions
Price and availability
The rims are available now from SIP and their stockists. They come in a choice of three colours, black, gold and black with polished edges. They cost £283.62 plus VAT and import duty if you’re in the UK. You can order yours here.
