We’d heard rumours of this fabled new Vespa GTS 310 as far back as June this year, those rumours turned closer to reality when the MP3 310 was launched in September.
There has still been no official confirmation or press release from Piaggio about the GTS 310, even though it started arriving in European dealers in early October and UK dealers at the end of last week. Well, the wait is over, and we can finally reveal some details and images for you.
As expected, the general styling of the GTS is as it was on the excellent RST22 version but there have been a few changes.
New engine
Of course, 310 relates to the Vespa’s capacity and this GTS is the most powerful, responsive and largest capacity Vespa to roll out of Pontedera. The engine utilises the existing 278cc liquid-cooled engine but more than 70% of its components are new. The stroke is up from 63 to 70mm which equates to just shy of 310cc. Power has increased to 25bhp, torque has also been increased. The engine is quieter. It has new injectors, a tilted cylinder, new starting system and a new crankcase design that significantly reduces mechanical and drive belt noise. Of course, the engine meets the latest Euro 5+ standard but is more powerful and also more efficient so further reduces fuel consumption and emissions.
Ergonomics
One thing with many modern scooters is their seat height/width which can make them a bit cumbersome for shorter or novice riders. The revised seat on the 310 is designed to not only be more comfortable but also, make it easier for the rider to put their feet to the ground.
Versions and colours
As usual, there are three main versions of the GTS plus the SuperTech pictured above and GTV…
Vespa GTS 310 E5+ – UK price: £6515
This one comes in Beige Avvolgente, Nero Convinto and Verde Amabile. Details are enhanced with chrome including the legshield and footboard trims, horncast insert, front suspension spring, headlight surround and exhaust cover. It comes with a grey seat with vertical heat-sealed seams and tone-on-tone stitching to match the grips and rubber inserts on the footrests and wheels.
Vespa GTS 310 E5+ Super – UK price £6615
This slightly sportier version is, (according to Piaggio’s press release) “Drawing on the heritage of legendary sports models such as the Vespa GS 150, of 1955, the Vespa 180 SS of 1965 right up to the T5 “Pole Position” of 1985″. The Super is recognisable with its graphite-tone rims with a diamond finish and the double-covered seat with piping. It comes in two shiny pastel colours: Bianco Innocente and Ross Coraggioso, as well as the metallic Nero Convinto. Chrome finishes are complimented by sporty black details including the grips, rubber inserts on the footrests and the front suspension spring.
Vespa GTS 310 E5+ SuperSport – UK price £6765
The sportiest-looking GTS is available in five colours, glossy Blu Eclettico and Bianco Innocente, matt colours are Grigio Travolgente Opaco, Nero Convinto Opaco and Verde Ambizioso Opaco. The paintwork is enhanced with new graphics.

The SuperSport comes with graphite-coloured rims with dedicated graphics. Detailing includes a new carbon look finish for the horncasting, with orange details. Legshield and floor runner trims are black, as are the pillion pegs and most importantly the chrome switchgear has also been replaced with black. The seat is also black with horizontal heat-sealed seams and contrasting double stitching in fluorescent orange.
Vespa’s MIA connectivity system is standard on the SuperSport and is available as an accessory on the full range.
GTV 310?
Although the GTV wasn’t on the official press release, it was on show as a 310. The limited edition GTV is always popular and looks super cool so expect to see it in the UK soon.
