Scooter Center Cologne has issued a safety recall notice on some of their BGM-branded Vespa shock absorbers. It affects shocks bought from January 2023.

The recall affects Vespa GTS front and rear, Vespa P-range front and rear and PK front dampers and comes about after a safety defect was found. It led to the failure of two shock absorbers after insufficient glue was used during the assembly of the adjustment wheel on the actuator rod. This could lead to the screw connection of the shock absorber coming loose.

“The use of shock absorbers must therefore be discontinued immediately in order to avoid damage to property and personal injury.”

Recall notice from Scooter Center

Safety and honest dealing with our customers are very important to us, please return the shock absorbers to us as soon as possible.

To keep the effort as low as possible, you have the following return options:

Germany: we will write to all known buyers of any affected batches and send them a free DHL return label.

European Union: all buyers known to us of the possibly affected batches will be contacted and will receive a free return label by email at the beginning of the first week of July 2024 without the need for a request.

All countries outside the European Union: All buyers known to us of the possibly affected batches will be contacted. Unfortunately, we cannot offer free return labels for countries outside the European Union, but we will help you to get it sorted with as little hassle as possible. Please contact us at recall@scooter-center.com and we start to get the exchange started.

An invoice is not required. The serial number engraved on the lid of the oil reservoir allows us to clearly identify the shock absorbers.

The following options are available for processing:

If you purchased the shock absorbers from the Scooter Centre:

  • Exchange for new shock absorbers with full warranty. This is possible from the end of July 2024
  • Credit note for the invoice amount. An invoice is not required in this case either, as we can determine the purchase via your customer account. This is only possible if you have purchased from us via an existing customer account.

If you have purchased the shock absorbers from other companies:

  • Exchange for new shock absorbers with full warranty. This is possible from the end of July 2024.
  • If the shock absorber is no longer in your possession, please forward this letter to the new owner or let us know their address so that we can contact them.

For questions regarding the process or if you need a transitional shock absorber, please send us an email to: recall@scooter-center.com

We would like to sincerely apologize for the effort and trouble that this action has caused and ask for your understanding for this unfortunately necessary step. There can be no compromise when it comes to personal safety.
