Whilst at the Euro Lambretta, Darren ‘Scotty’ Scott of DSC Racing was able to give Shaun a sneak peek at a couple of new products that they have been testing in his race bikes for AF Rayspeed. Including the new ‘Python’ clutch.
DSC team boss, Scotty said “After extensive testing, we can confirm that the new AF Rayspeed 8-plate Lambretta clutch is now in full production.”

Tested to 40+bhp
Scotty told us “Having gone through various test stages in our ( #1 Steve Wright) Group 6 RB250 it has proven to be 100% reliable, with no slip, drag or mechanical failure. That’s with 40bhp behind it under race conditions. The pre-production clutch has been tested in full road trim, without any race upgrades and has been faultless. Steve’s only complaint being when used in conjunction with AF Rayspeed’s Easi Clutch Mechanism the tension at the lever was in fact too light!”
Scotty said “The operation is silky smooth and gives good plate separation, which benefits gear change. There is no definitive price yet, however, they are expected to retail at around £330-£350.”
Post race check up
Back to Team DSC HQ for a post-race check over after last weekend’s BSSO Round at a very windy Anglesey. Scotty removed the clutch and checked it for wear, damage etc. He said “There’s a distinct lack of fishy smell, which is always a good sign all is in order! It’s possibly the easiest clutch available to strip and reassemble.”
Steve Wright will be riding this scooter at this weekend’s Scooters on the Mount event at Oliver’s Mount.
Python clutch
AF Rayspeed’s Ben has put together the video above which explains some more about the ‘Python clutch.’ Ben told us that the new clutch weighs in at 1432g (an AF Road 6-plate with 46-tooth crown wheel weighs 1523g). A standard GP200 clutch weighs 1940g.
The parts shown in Steve Wright’s race bike and in the video are all pre-production parts. The centres are hard anodised in bronze on the finished version (as shown above).
Pre-orders
The arrival of the new clutch is imminent so if you’d like to be one of the first to own one you can email AF at: rayspeedtype@gmail.com put SLUK ORDER as the subject (just so that they know you saw it here first) and include your full name, address and phone number. Somebody will get back to you to take your money.
New AF Clo5e 5-speed layshaft
Also new from AF is this 5-speed layshaft, specially designed for 5-speed gear stacks. We’ll bring more info on that as we receive it and you can keep an eye on the AF Rayspeed website. It’s worth noting that AF are snowed under and currently short-staffed.
Thanks to Scotty and Shaun for help with this article

Also whilst at the Euro Lambretta, Shaun had a quick spin on the new Chimera Twin. You can read all about that on ScooterLab tomorrow.
