Buzzwangle, that’s a funny name for a very serious new device that’s set to make sorting your ignition timing, or measuring port timing much easier on a vast number of different scooters.

The Buzzwangle tool is another invention of SLUK’s own Sticky, working together with Sam Wheeler from The Scooter Republic (TSR). It’s a 4-way tool that allows a digital degree meter (inclinometer) to mount to almost any scooter flywheel using the extractor threads. He’s been working on this since 2016, applying for a patent on the concept.

New adjustable piston stop is included in the kit.

The Buzzwangle device has been through several variations. The cast type shown in the accompanying video has since been superseded by a fully CNC-machined version made from billet.

The Buzzwangle has four different threads allowing it to screw directly to Vespa, Lambretta, LML, Vespatronic, Ducati, Yamaha RD, RZ and many other motorcycle and moped ignitions.

To understand how it works, and how much easier it makes setting your timing, it’s best to watch the videos.

Advantages:

  • Simple! The CNC-machined Buzzwangle provides a rigid platform for any magnetic inclinometer to attach.
  • No disassembly! The Buzzwangle is used without need to disturb the flywheel or flywheel nut making it much easier and quicker than using a degree disc.
  • Greater accuracy! The Buzzwangle-O-Meter 360 reads to 0.1 degrees; which is ten times the resolution of a standard degree disc.
  • Solid fit! The offset design of the platform and use of a central lock screw means that the Buzzwangle can be locked to the flywheel in any position and fastened so securely that you can even use a spanner on the Buzzwangle to rotate the flywheel and crankshaft.

Getting one

The Buzzwangle tool is available now as a complete kit, along with a special adjustable aluminium piston stop (reversible for 14mm and 10mm spark plug threads) and a special 360-degree magnetic inclinometer called the Buzzwangle-O-Meter. It comes in a presentation tin and makes an ideal gift for the scooterist who has everything except a Buzzwangle.

The complete kit (tool, meter and piston stop) is available now at £109.99 from The Sluk Shop. You can also see it being used in the Third edition of Sticky’s Complete Spanner’s Lambretta manual (available now).
