My mate owns a gp200. It’s his pride and joy. He’s always tinkering with it, he’d love to get the engine to a point where he could rely on it 100% as he misses out on so much with it breaking down all the time! These cases would be a great starting point for him to rebuild his pride into something reliable and get him down the road. Good luck everyone!

watford being the location now being more northerly in North Yorks

the large block 200cc casing is the easiest way to get a modern performance from a lambretta and easily achieved with this case.especially If as good as the uni rear hubs, it will be a winner

Simple answer is this is the universal casing that’s going to keep your vintage lambretta on modern roads. Lighting strikes twice for AF, UNI TS1 5 Speed anyone? You read here first the AF UT5.

Now I can stop hoarding scrap and get decent standard casings at a reasonable (hopefully) price.

    14th December 2018 @ 3:26 pm

I would use the casing to build an engine with my old man and his brother to put in an empty S2 frame I picked up last year. They had a S2 back in late 60’s and it’d be great to complete the circle and get my dad back on a Lambretta. He’s been 15y on a PX since making his come back to the scene!

Q: The original home of the Arthur Francis ‘S ‘Type was in…

    A: Watford

Why I deserve to win: Presently, I am running a small block engine casing and would very much like to replace it with a Uni 200cc engine to match the existing (excellent) Uni rear hub that I have been using the last 3 years.

If the Uni brand is as good as it is, definitely the casing will find a good home (and fit) on my Lammy.

Plus hearing the boss, Mr M. Mittal speak about it IN PERSON and showed pictures of the work in progress, when he was here for a visit, got me all excited to WANT to have it all the more.

    Please pick me! 🙂

The original home of the Arthur Francis ‘S ‘Type was in … Watford, at 324a St. Albans Road.
Oh my goodness! … This is just what I need to rebuild my very tired TV200 engine in! You name it, my crankcase is suffering from it! Stripped threads, Broken exhaust stub, which resulted in a damaged chaincase cover, welded up crankcase where it threw a rod through it in its former life, after the sidecar was removed from it, it was used for racing! My poor scooter is off the road with an electrical fault, and I have another stator plate and flywheel to install to revive it, and it also needs new engine mounts, and did I mention what looks like a crack where the chaincase-side mount is located? Ho-hum! It would be so much nicer to rebuild the innards in this lovely uprated crankcase!
I bought this scooter of Messrs Tony Walsh and Tony McGee around 1969 for the grand sum of £50! (The two Tonys were known as Stow Racing Developments.) It used to take me to school, and afterwards to The City of London from Loughton each day to my first job as an Insurance clerk. After a long period of disuse, it was rebuilt as a tuned TS1 around 1995 or so by Cambridge Lambretta, and has been as much a part of my life as has Radio Caroline, which sponsors David Cornwallis in the appropriately numbered 648 Radio Caroline BMW, … and this is where things go full circle, … the same car Tony McGee ran for Tom Pead when he owned it at Nurbergring in Germany before it was sold to David. It’s a small world!
Please … This pensioner needs this crankcase to continue my pleasure on two wheels!

    Watford is the answer.
I wanted to get a 200 engine case in the future and this looks good , but I have just had a set back as I have been made redundant after 29 years service. It would be good if I won this .

    Hi the answer is Watford,
Why would I like these shiny new casings, well the casing on my restoration project is proper knackered and these Uni casings look top quality, also the fact that I’m broker than a broke thing on St Brokes day makes me keen to win this amazing competition

  75. Paul Jefferson

    Answer is -3 Watford-
I think it should come up North so we can Tune it, race it and send SLUK readers updates and articles about its progress, don’t let Pat Whickam win it, he’ll only sell to buy warm larger and jellied eels!

    14th December 2018 @ 9:33 pm

Arthur was in Watford when he wasn’t on the buses 🙂
As for why I should win………
It’s my big birthday soon, so whilst I’m officially old, I’d like a new set of casings so that I can build an engine to go in my old cut down to make me feel young again…….or at least until my back & piles start playing up!

  85. Hungdog
    14th December 2018 @ 9:41 pm

    3. Watford…A new case would give me an excuse to stay in the garage longer and out of trouble..

  89. Special X
    14th December 2018 @ 10:17 pm

The answer to the question is : Watford. Why do I want to win these cases ?….because a lot of thought and expense has gone into producing them. I’ve just meticulously restored my Lambretta but have only put a temporary engine in it to get it on the road. These cases will give me the opportunity to build the engine that I really want. An engine built in these cases will complement my scooter and make it perfect.

  90. David Gotch
    14th December 2018 @ 10:54 pm

    Why should I win.
To teach me that a Lammy is a viable alternative to a quick Vespa and doesnt go bang. (Plus I will send a bribe). X

Hmm had no idea it was Watford.. your never too old to learn.

If anyones ever owned a Lambretta in Canada…
building one isn’t something to undertake unless your off your gourd..
pretty much only Lambretta owners know what they are..
parts are usualy double the price, and if you’ve ordered the wrong bit
suck it up and re-order and wait another couple of weeks to a month..
most of us could of purchased a new scooter just from the accumulated shipping costs alone.
but more importantly after blowing up my Mugello this summer I need all the help I can get…

My name is terry vine and as others before me like the 80s scooterists who brought me up as a young skinhead through the 90s telling their tales of the long distance scooter runs and all the fun and turmoil that goes with the way of life we all love, i too travel 1000s of miles every season all over the UK and Europe on my lambretta chopper keeping the faith and showing my now older friends that their spirit still lives on however only having a small block engine you can imagine the constant problems I have faced through the seasons so to that end I am taking my full licence early next year and a set of these amazing casings will certainly be put to good use on the road and not be sat in someone’s garage most of the year. I thank you and look forward to the results

Plus, when Brexit goes pear-shaped and cannibalism becomes rampant you will want to know someone in Canada with a space for a cot in their garage that owes you a favour.

Watford. I believe I should win the Uni casings. As mine like most of the above mentioned are a little tired to say the least. Some very good reasons given and some funny one’s too. Looks like a great piece of kit good luck and a merry Christmas and happy New year to all.

Watford ! not the Gap! a nice new engine case will eliminate the gaps I have in mine that drip oil over my garage floor and anywhere that I park the GP. Also a great way to save the Earth from oil contamination.

I’m in need of a new 200 casing as I went to Belgium in September 10 mile off the boat snapped my chain smashed a huge hole in the top of casing twisted crank but repaired it with liquid metal bent the crank back into shape with a big hammer all at the side of road and road to the rally and back home again. It’s now sat in the garage covered in oil looking sorry for its self and need to get it fixed then I can go Poland next year

The latest issue is resolved as I’ve place my hard earned cash towards xmas and ensuring my two girls have a wonderful time. Leaving Daddy to ponder a plan B. Then as if by xmas magic this competition came up. Has santa really done this for me?

I remember the first Sil 200 casing I bought from Ray in the winter of ‘80 rode up from Chingford on my GP150 and luckily they had one in stock well pleased I rode back home and realised I’d forgotten something so had to go straight back. The guy Dave Farmer who was doing the rebuild had a GSX 1100 at the time he said he’ll run me there. He clocked up over 100mph on the M1 needless to say the journey time was halved. Anyhow I’ve recently bought a 150 Silver Special which I plan to upgrade to 200 early in the new year and the UNI casing looks like a great bit of kit especially as Ray has had some design input and those brake pins are now in the right place. Merry Christmas at Sluk x

The reason I should win is because my daily drive, 1965 Li 150 with jet 200 motor, is getting really tired. I’ve helicoiled all the mag housing studs, one of the exhaust stud mounts and the other I had to drill out and make an insert because it was already oversized. Its been alloy welded around the bump stop and on the gasket face and one of the rear hub flange studs has snapped off but she keeps going day after day and with these Uni casings she’ll keep going for at least another 63 years!

I would like to win as I had a bit of bad luck which lead to a rearrangment of my engine. The con rod now sits on the outside of the engine, compression is now poor!

A motorcycle truck get stuck in a low-ceiling tunnel. Is only a matter of half-inch, but the truck don’t fit inside…
A scooter rider stops to see the problem, and told the trucker:
“Hey, if you drop the pressure of all your tyres, you would probably fit and solve the issue”.
The trucker thinks about it…and finally says:
“The problem is on the ceiling, not on the ground !”
