TCX X-Cube | CLOTHING REVIEWS
The traditional scooterists attire was often a pair of shiny Dr Marten boots and yes they offer the protection of leather but aren’t really waterproof and don’t have any other built in protection. Things have moved on a bit since the 1980’s so save your Doc’s for a night out and buy yourself some ‘proper’ scooter riding boots instead.
TCX are a French brand, they produce some great looking footwear with enough protection to gain a CE certification without looking too bulky. I prefer a short/mid length boot with a bit of protection so these boots are perfect for me.
These TCX X-Cube boots have covered some serious miles in all kinds of weather. They’re comfortable on and off the scooter, look good, are 100% waterproof and keep my feet warm and dry in winter but are still cool enough to use in summer. The only time I’ve ever had wet feet when wearing them was when my waterproofs were too short, allowing the rain to run straight down the back of my boots like an annoying gutter. The boots are constructed from chamois leather combined with a water resistant fabric, they also have a padded upper collar for extra comfort and the lining is waterproof as well.
Closure is by a rapid lacing system and there’s a Velcro tab to secure them. These boots have covered at least 15,000 miles and other than one with a bit of damage where a hot bike exhaust melted it a bit they’re still as good as new and will survive another 15,000 miles.
Since I had my pair they’ve been updated (see photo) and are now called the X-Cube Evo Waterproof, they cost £119.99 and come with a Michelin Urban rubber sole inspired by the Pilot Road 3 and Pro Grip 4 tyres.
Lab report
If you want a good blend of comfort, warmth and style then these boots are perfect. The added bonus is that they’re waterproof as well and they’re not overly expensive, well recommended.
