If you like fast Vespas and clever engineering this series of tutorials is well worth a watch. It details the ground-up build of a 45bhp BFA 306. The series of 19 tutorials will be helpful even if you’re just building a standard Vespa engine.
This scooter was built as daily transport by (and for) SIP product developer and technician, Jesco. He wanted something that was easy to ride but could also be great fun. The humungous powerband of a 45bhp two-stroke in a lightweight Vespa chassis has got fun written all over it! Part of this build was to satisfy the stringent German TÜV test and be 100% road legal.
Road and race
Thankfully the TÜV engineer was involved from the start and gave the scooter the green light. Just as well really because it was to be used for one of the scooter shop’s tours to Corse, as well as some track testing and a race at the Nürburgring. Rather than us waffling on about it you can check out the full build and blog here.

SLUK will be building a Pinasco 251 Vespa engine over the winter. We’ll also be doing a video (and written) build with the help of Diablo Moto, showing the trials and tribulations. The engine casings are currently up at Midas Touch being powder coated and the build will start once lockdown ends. We’ll keep you posted…
