Announced today, Weston-Super-Mare based Lambretta parts company, Scootopia will be fielding a two-man Scootopia Lambretta Racing Team in this year’s BSSO championships. The new team will be partnering Andy Barnes’ (Time Attack) Flake Racing using two purpose-built Lambretta SX200s.
Andy told us “As for Group 4 Evo, this new class was interesting to us as it is effectively the stepping stone from the LCGB Production Class into something quicker. If you want to progress from that class it still retains small block casings and the potential to keep costs low by continuing to run some parts as you do in Production, albeit if you did, with modifications which you can’t do in Production. Beyond the engines, it effectively means that both our bikes are identical in specification but we can challenge two classes this season.”
The full-bodied machines will be ridden by Graham Tatton from Preston and Mikey Bonett from Southend. Graham will contest the LCGB backed production class and Mikey will be entering the new Group 4 Evo class. Mikey makes his return to racing after taking most of 2017 out. When asked about the new season Mikey told us he is “Excited, nervous and itching to get going again. After taking a year out from the championship last season I feel more than ready to step back into where I left off from (2016 best British rider in grp6) I’m healthier, fitter and my mind is where it should be.”
The two scooters will run in Scootopia livery and use as many parts as possible from the Scootopia range. John Balcomb at JB Tuning will be building and looking after both engines, whilst Rock Oil and Jockeys Boxenstop will also be supporting the class with oil and parts.
The bikes will be unveiled at a later date but we’ll keep you posted on developments as we hear about it…
