Designed for NASCAR racing, the original 1970s bad boy, Simpson Bandit was never road legal for motorcycle use. That didn’t stop people buying and using them though, in fact, it probably helped to cement Simpson’s hooligan image.
Not quite as bad
If you’re a bit older now and not quite so bad you’ll be pleased to know this new Simpson Venom is fully road legal! It complies to ECE 22-05 regulations and is approved to ACU Gold standards for race use. Ok, the Bandit’s tiny visor aperture may have been replaced by something of a similar shape but this one is actually big enough to see out of and have good peripheral vision. Even so, this helmet still looks pretty mean.
Talking of visors, the Venom comes with an integral dark sun visor (obviously you’re not badass enough to use a dark visor with it). The external visor has an ultra-wide viewpoint, comes with a MaxVision prepared Pinlock and controlled anti-fog ventilation.
Available now: £299.99
The helmet itself is made from a high-strength, Multi-Axis Tricomposite (MAXX-3C )compound. It’s available in three shell sizes; XS-M/L-XL and XXL. The Venom comes in a choice of gloss white, gloss black or matt black and costs £299.99. They’re available from all good bike retailers through Oxford Products.
