Anthony Tambs fully loads the regulator when testing by running 4×20 watt lamps. He puts a 10-watt lamp on the DC output. If you look at the current meter you’ll see it’s using 10 amps so approx 7 amps is being used to run the lights and 3 amps is being shunted away. Here’s the problem with the DC output with no regulation. If you’re not loading the output up with anything and have a battery fitted. This output can reach about 30 volts peak and it’s this that damages a battery eventually if it’s just on standby and not running anything. Scootronics have added regulation to the positive half cycle so it gets regulated to 12 volts DC. Ok this comes at an extra cost but only £2.50 extra. So these regulators will retail at £22.50.
