We all know ethanol isn’t very compatible with rubber and various other materials but unfortunately, it’s unavoidable in modern fuels. If you’re planning an engine rebuild these days it’s not worth bothering with ordinary oil seals.
Scooter Center Cologne has just released their new BGM Viton® oil seals for Vespa and Lambretta models. Made from Dupont® Viton® these seals should be used in both standard and tuned engines to prevent early failure due to degradation caused by ethanol-based fuels. In Europe E5 and E10 are already widely used at the pump, with some countries (Austria and Europe) allegedly slipping even more ethanol into their pump fuels.
Most individual seals and complete seal kits are available from Scooter Center now. With prices starting at just £6.95 they’re not likely to add too much to an engine rebuild, not using them could cost you time and money in the long run though.
