French scooter manufacturer Peugeot has launched a special ‘Total Sport’ edition of their Speedfight 4 to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the model.
Yes, the Speedfight has been in production for 20 years now, and coincidentally Peugeot and French fuel and lubricant specialist Total have been in partnership for two decades too – their relationship beginning in 1995 – making the 2016 model a special edition for all the right reasons.
The Peugeot-Total pairing is perhaps best known for the World Rally Championships, in which the 206 WRC achieved numerous victories including three constructors’ championship. This has of course been celebrated over the years, with a number of WRC themed Speedfight scooters having been created in that time.
The latest is based on the fourth generation of the Speedfight scooter and this new Total Sport version features a 50cc liquid-cooled two-stroke engine, fed by a Dell’Orto carburettor, which Peugeot tells us delivers 5% more power and 15% more torque than the previous model.
The scooter also has USD, telescopic 32mm diameter front forks and a remote reservoir rear shock absorber, which are combined with 12-inch alloy wheels and low profile tyres. Together with the new fuel tank location under the foot-board, all adds up to what Peugeot state is improved stability and sharper handling.
Stopping power is via a 215mm diameter Shuricane front disc brake with radial calliper, and a 190mm diameter Shuricane disc at the rear.
Cosmetically the Speedfight’s styling is inspired by the Peugeot Exalt concept car, and the subtle yet effective matt black bodywork is enhanced with an aviation-style fuel cap, aluminium footrests, pearly chequerboard floor and sporty red panel inserts.
The dashboard has both USB and 12V sockets (and is ready to take a RAM® X-Grip® Smartphone holder) and you get all this for £2099 (not including first registration fee and VED) which includes a two-year unlimited mileage parts and labour warranty.
