On May 6th this year LML announced a temporary suspension of production at their factory in Kanpur. According to a spokesman this closure was aimed at maintenance and internal restructuring of the plant with a view to producing 3-wheelers.
“Barring unforeseen circumstances, the suspension of work is likely to take about three months,” the company said.
This news comes at the same time as Euro emissions regulations are due to bite which will end the sale of the last batch of 2-stroke LML Star scooters. These Vespa look-a-likes are the last LML will produce that still follow the chassis design and 2-stroke engine layout of the Vespa PX.
Besides the PX-based Star, UK importers MotoGB recently released the LML Star Lite – based on the Vespa PK chassis – which we tested on SLUK here.
How LML’s factory restructuring will affect the future production of scooters is currently not known.
