Honda have revealed the latest updates to two of their funkiest and most iconic machines – the Super Cub and Monkey bike. Both bikes have received upgrades for the 2022 model year and now conform to Euro 5 standards.
Reintroduced to Europe in 2018 the Super Cub has gained new fans around the world, thanks to its endearing charm, timeless style and simplicity. In a modern world, Honda could have opted for a conventional automatic engine but chose to keep the original ‘heel and toe’ shifter and semi-automatic gearbox. At the heart of the Super Cub sits a new air-cooled four-stroke engine (as it’s been since 1959 when the first Cub was launched). The new 125cc SOHC engine is smoother, more powerful and more efficient thanks to a redesign of the Japanese market C110 crankcases, mated to the top end of the latest two-valve MSX Grom. There’s a new airbox, redesigned internals for the exhaust and new ECU programming. Peak power is up slightly to 9.65 bhp and 10.4Nm of torque.
Styling has remained relatively unchanged, although pillion pegs and seat now come as standard and the suspension has been revised to help accommodate a passenger. The Cub also features LED lighting and Honda’s Smart Key – keyless ignition. Shown above is the Cub in its striking new all matt colour scheme. The new colour is Mat Axis Grey Metallic and I must say it looks pretty mean.
You can still buy the 2019 Honda Cub whilst stocks last and the new one will be arriving soon.
The Styling of the Monkey bike needs no explanation, it just looks cool. Mini-bike dimensions coupled with retro-inspired design, lashings of chrome and chunky wheels – the Monkey just looks the part. Add in a new 5-speed Euro 5 manual engine (replacing the old four-speed unit) giving a top speed of 56.5mph and the Monkey should be even more fun and useful for longer journeys. There’s also a new rear luggage carrier (an official Honda accessory) so load it up and go off cruising!.
The monkey is brimming with modern features, including single-channel ABS, fuel injection, an LCD dash and LED lighting. It’s available in (new for 2022), Pearl Glittering Blue, as well as Banana Yellow and Pearl Nebula Red.
