Brexit has thrown a bit of a spanner in the works for anybody from the UK buying parts from Europe, or for anybody selling to Europe from the UK.
Parcels that were already in transit over the Christmas period (many of which were stuck thanks to Covid border restrictions) will have already had German/Italian/EU VAT paid on them when the parts were originally ordered (before Brexit).
Thanks to a last-minute EU Brexit trade deal, customers will have to pay the UK VAT charge (20% of the order total, plus postage costs) BEFORE the parts can be delivered (paid to the courier firm). As you may have seen on social media this week some customers will have paid both EU and UK VAT.
SIP & Scooter Center
If you’re from the UK and are buying from Europe after 1st January 2021 the supplier should sell the parts at NET COST (NO VAT). SIP and Scooter Center are already doing that on their webshops. You WILL still be liable for the UK VAT on your order when it arrives though.
If you have been caught up in the post-Brexit crossfire and get stung for two lots of VAT on items get in touch with the supplier to get the European VAT refunded. We’ll be covering this subject in more detail next week, with more details and info from the big three – SIP, Scooter Center and Rimini Lambretta Centre.
