Ill-fated Indian scooter manufacturer, LML have announced plans to start production again. Classic scooter fans will probably be disappointed though. LML Electric will be focussing solely on domestic market electric scooters.
No details have been released on what the scooters will be based on, or when we’re likely to see them but with any luck, we might get an electric PX-style LML Star, or Star Lite.
LML shut their Kanpur based factory for ‘restructuring’ in May 2016 and finally closed the doors in 2017. Rumours of an Indian government buy out never came to fruition but it was hoped that it would save the fate of the company. Over the years LML has had more comebacks than Mike Tyson, so a return could never truly be ruled out and it looks like we might be getting one.
In a statement released by the former Indian Piaggio partners, Dr. Yogesh Bhatia, MD & CEO, LML Electric said, “We’re extremely excited to make a significant comeback. We are actively working on the product development strategies in order to introduce a highly innovative product equipped with the best of technology to enable & strengthen the urban mobility space. We would like to empower the upper-middle and urban segments of society with our range of premium products to drive the change.”
We’ll be following this story and will share more information as we get it.
